ong Kong is one of the lowest tax rate regions in Asia and it adopts a territorial source principle of taxation. Only profits which have a source in Hong Kong are taxable here. Profits sourced elsewhere are not subject to Hong Kong Profits Tax. This means that a person or a corporation which carries on a business or just makes banking transactions in Hong Kong but derives profits from another place is not required to pay tax in Hong Kong on those profits. Hong Kong is a simple tax jurisdiction. The corporation profits tax rate is 17.5%. According to the Inland Revenue Ordinances, expenses incurred in the production of assessable profits are deductible. Offshore income and capital gains are not chargeable to profits tax. Dividend and bank interest income are also exempt from tax. There is no sales tax imposed on goods and services.
nder the "one country, two systems" concept, businesses in Hong Kong are not subject to the Mainland China's taxation and cannot claim to be part of China for the purposes of double tax treaties signed between China and the other countries of the world. Hong Kong government will practice an independent taxation system.
